Goose and Broccoli is an easy, 1-pan 30-minute meal that is loaded with tender goose meat, fresh broccoli, and the best savory-sweet sauce.
It’s football season, and that means many of us can get loaded down over the weekend with eating too much of the usual suspects - chili con queso, meatballs, and wings. And now we’ve got Halloween candy everywhere! If you are like me, you need a nice pile of fresh, crispy vegetables to make you feel better about yourself. And that’s where this Goose and Broccoli Stir Fry comes in.
I developed this recipe after getting tired of spending $20 every time my wife was in the mood for Beef and Broccoli from a local Chinese restaurant. I love supporting local businesses, but takeout food is expensive. This easy goose recipe is also a great way to get through the back-to-school season when you are struggling to find time to offer your kids a well-balanced meal. Feel free to add your family member’s favorite vegetables to this recipe like snap peas, carrots, bell peppers, mushrooms, or those little baby corn spears you find in the Asian food section of your local supermarket.
I also appreciate that this saucy goose and broccoli recipe reheats well so it’s great for weekly meal prep and lunches to take to school and work.

Goose and Broccoli Ingredients
- 2 boneless, skinless Canada goose breasts (from 1 bird)
- 1/4 cup + 1 Tablespoon sesame oil, divided
- 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup white rice, cooked according to package directions
- 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets (about 2 cups)
- 2 teaspoons sesame seeds (optional garnish)
Stir Fry Sauce Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup oyster sauce
- 2 Tablespoons packed light brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon corn starch
- 1 Tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon low sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- On a cutting board, tenderize the goose breasts using a Jaccard meat tenderizer and pat dry with paper towels. Then use a sharp knife to slice thin (about 1/8-inch) against the grain.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup of the sesame oil, 1/4 cup soy sauce, minced garlic, and black pepper. Add goose breast slices, toss to coat well, and marinate at room temperature while you prepare the rest of the dish.
- Start cooking white rice so it’s ready when the stir fry is done.
- Combine all the stir fry sauce ingredients in a small mixing bowl, whisk together until well combined, and set aside.
- Place a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 Tablespoon of the sesame oil. Add broccoli florets and sauté for about 5 minutes, tossing several times until tender. Transfer broccoli to a plate and set aside.
- In the same large skillet add the other 1 Tablespoon of sesame oil and increase to medium-high heat. Remove sliced goose breasts from the marinade (discard the marinade) and place meat in a single layer in the large skillet and sauté for 2 minutes per side until cooked through.
- Add the sauce, reduce heat to low and simmer for about 3 minutes until sauce has thickened. Add broccoli and stir to combine.
- Serve immediately with white rice and garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
